Hello, my name is Kyle Erickson. I am a Senior Support Specialist at Practice Velocity. We’ve been getting quite a few questions on the kind of behaviors that can cause chart locks inside VelociDoc, and I want to cover some of those scenarios with you guys today. So let’s get on to it and see what we can show.

Now, the most common indicator that a chart is locked is when you’re on your tracking board and you’re on the chart column, or under the chart column, you’ll see this little lock symbol right next to the patients, depending on where you have that column at. When you highlight over that lock it tells you who has it locked, and how long or when they locked it. You can see it here under the chart column. You can also see it under the labs and procedures and x-ray column. That same chart icon is also located on the waiting room and the discharge patient section. I’ll also show you just to give you kind of an idea. Here is the window that pops up when you do run through a chart lock. Like I said, it shows you who’s had it locked and what section, if they have a specific section locked. It also, on the admin level and provider level allows you to take that lock if someone is stuck in a chart, or a provider needs to get in there to add more documentation. But really those are just the most common and most run-into situations that would cause a chart lock.

So those are really just some of the common scenarios that you’ll run in to when you run in to a chart lock. If you guys have any other questions or anything like that, please contact us at or contact the Customer Support line and you’ll get any one of my wonderful teammates. Once again, my name is Kyle Erickson and I am our Senior Support Specialist.
