Practice Velocity is proud to announce that Alan Ayers, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, received a national award — the 2015 Bronze Award for Best How-To Article in a healthcare publication from the American Society of Healthcare Publication Editors (ASHPE). Alan AyersAyers earned the award for his article, “A Process Approach to Differentiating Your Urgent Care Brand by Ensuring that Patients Leave Satisfied” in the February 2015 edition of the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine (JUCM).

ASHPE recognizes outstanding editorial excellence and achievement in healthcare publications. The annual competition offers an opportunity for writers, bloggers, and editors to go up against the best the healthcare sector has to offer. Ayers won the 2011 Gold Award from ASHPE in the same category.

“The recognition from ASHPE is a great honor. Through this article, and all of the work done in JUCM, I’m trying to offer ideas and strategies to help urgent care providers succeed,” Ayers said. “The JUCM continues to elevate the growing urgent care industry and provides high-quality editorial content to practitioners.”

The article “A Process Approach to Differentiating Your Urgent Care Brand by Ensuring that Patients Leave Satisfied” explains that rapid growth in the urgent care industry has increased competition. To succeed, urgent care operators need to stand out in the sea of sameness and foster patient loyalty by creating a stellar patient experience.

“Forward-thinking providers must first identify and understand their service delivery through the eyes of patients, and then develop processes that ensure efficiency, convenience, professionalism, and satisfaction at every touchpoint,” Ayers writes in the article.

Ayers is practice management editor for the Journal of Urgent Care Medicine and is a past board member for the Urgent Care Association of America.
