Machesney Park, IL. (May 11, 2017) “ Practice Velocity, LLC, the top-rated provider of urgent care software and services, announced today that employees will be participating in an exhibit highlighting careers at the Discovery Center’s “Discover Careers” project, a four-step program that will begin this month.
“We are very happy to be a part of this important program that provides children numerous opportunities to learn about many different careers, said Alan Ayers, vice president of Strategic Initiatives at Practice Velocity. “With the constant advancements in technology, learning about future career opportunities in technical fields will be even more critical and we are excited to share that with the children in this community and region.”
Practice Velocity’s involvement includes four video testimonials from team members in varying roles within the organization including Tiffany Minami, product owner/team manager; Shalini Joshi, embedded QA tester; Brandon Zweifel, Sr. software engineer; and Kim Walton, IT systems administrator. Each will be featured in a short clip that will be played from a kiosk describing their job, their duties, traits important to being successful in their career and what type of education/technical training kids may need to complete.
“Our goal with the “Discover Careers” project is to introduce elementary age children to the wide variety of careers there are right here in the Rockford Region,” said Ann Marie Walker, Director of Marketing, Discovery Center. “The project will provide children chances to think about what kind of work they would be interested in doing one day.”
Thanks to a grant from the Community Foundation of Northern Illinois, the Discovery Center is introducing “Discover Careers,” a comprehensive career”focused project. The four-phase program is designed to stimulate and excite children about future careers and incudes career-focused kiosks with 70 varying careers, career graphic panels at varies exhibits throughout the museum, special programs, such as When I Grow Up and after school programs with targeted career learning opportunities. The career kiosks and graphics will be permanent features at the museum. The Discovery Center is creating this program because research shows students need more exposure to career opportunities starting at the elementary level and waiting until high school to excite students about future careers limits choices that students may have.
