SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (May 12, 2014) ” DocuTAP, the country’s leading provider of integrated Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and practice management technology for urgent care practices, has announced that Eric McDonald, the firm’s founder and CEO, has been named a finalist for the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Yearâ„¢ 2014 Award in the Upper Midwest Region. The awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities. Award winners will be announced at a special gala event on Wednesday, June 11 at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis.

“I am truly honored to be included as a finalist for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year program,” said McDonald. “Since the very beginning, my goal for DocuTAP has been to assist our customers by providing a streamlined clinical process. This recognition serves as a testament to all that our company has achieved over the past 14 years, and I am so proud to stand in the same category as so many other exceptional entrepreneurs in the upper Midwest.”

The upper Midwest region includes companies based in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas. Collectively, this year’s finalists generated more than $2.5 billion in revenue and accounted for more than 6,500 jobs by the end of 2013.

A young entrepreneur with a strong IT background, McDonald envisioned wireless technology as the future of the healthcare industry. Starting in May 2000, he worked directly with physicians for more than two years in their own clinical environment to develop the DocuTAP software, specifically designed for use on handheld devices. McDonald officially launched DocuTAP in 2000 with the help of several angel investors that supported his vision to improve healthcare, and made the decision to solely focus on serving increasingly popular urgent care center—requiring speed and efficiency. His leadership proved essential in securing $6 million in Series A funding from Bluff Point Associates in 2012, and in securing $12 million in Series B funding led by Bessemer Venture Partners in 2013.

Today, McDonald has grown DocuTAP to serve more than 750 urgent care clinics nationwide. As CEO, he guides the firm’s sales and product development, setting the vision for software design and overall company direction. His vision for DocuTAP has led to fully integrated practice management and EMR software, which streamlines urgent care practices by automating processes and giving clinic’s true insight into their care. To give further insight, DocuTAP Analytics was created to allow clinics to easily dive deep into their clinical data.
