Practice Velocity (PV) team members raised a $5,113 donation for CASA of Winnebago County to help local children who have been abused or neglected get the advocacy they need while they go through the Winnebago County court system.
Each year, Practice Velocity team members choose how they want to give back to the local community. In 2017, they chose CASA of Winnebago County (Court Appointed Special Advocates for Children), a non-profit organization that appoints volunteer advocates for abused and neglected children who must appear in court.
“We had a representative from CASA of Winnebago County come out to Practice Velocity to share with us how they help the kids in our community,” says Dr. David Stern, CEO of Practice Velocity. “Once they heard how CASA advocates for children in the court system, our team members wanted to help make sure those kids’ voices are heard so they can find safe, permanent homes and heal from the trauma they’ve experienced.”
PV team members spent 2017 hosting special company-wide fund-raising events to collect funds specifically for CASA. Some of those efforts included selling ID badge lanyards, Valentine’s Day candy, raffle tickets, Christmas treat bags and more.
“CASA is honored to receive such a large donation from the team at Practice Velocity,” says Taryn Marko, program director for CASA of Winnebago County. “The support from Practice Velocity’s employees is truly awe-inspiring because they are able to give the abused and neglected children in our town the support of a committed and compassionate adult to be their rock as they go through a very chaotic and confusing time in their lives. This donation will be used to help support our advocates and assist them in meeting the needs of our children. We all know that each child’s case is so unique, and so is the response to helping them. These funds will have the most impact on our children by supporting our organization with training and assistance.”
