DocuTAP, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based provider of an integrated EMR (electronic medical records) and practice management technology for urgent care providers, is proud to partner with Samaritan’s Feet to raise funds for those in South Dakota in need of shoes. During the week of August 12-16, DocuTAP encourages employees to donate funds to Samaritan’s Feet.
On Friday, August 23, DocuTAP employees who donated will go barefoot or wear sandals to help promote the Barefoot Corporate movement. DocuTAP will be matching employee contributions and encouraging employees to participate in the shoe distribution and feet washing.
Samaritan’s Feet hopes to give away 2,013 pairs of shoes in the Sioux Falls community. DocuTAP encourages local businesses or individuals interested in participation to contact Samaritan’s Feet to learn how to donate or volunteer.
Jen Schaefer, Director of Human Resources at DocuTAP, says “I’m so excited for DocuTAP and other local businesses to get involved in such a cool community outreach opportunity. Providing a child with a new pair of shoes and socks may seem like a little thing, yet to someone that doesn’t have this basic necessity, it’s a very big thing. How awesome would it be to put shoes on over 2,000 children right here in our community this fall?”
“The need for shoes is not just international, it is right here at home. Forty percent of the shoe distributions performed by Samaritan’s Feet and our volunteers are done here in the states. The people of South Dakota have been very supportive of our organization over the last couple of years, and we hope that together we can make a positive impact in inspiring Sioux Falls children through our events in October,” added Graham Gibbs, Director of Development at Samaritan’s Feet.
At the beginning of 2013, South Dakota Basketball Coaches Association—inspired by SDSU Men’s head basketball coach, Scott Nagy—made Samaritan’s Feet their focus charity with nearly 80 coaches statewide going barefoot to raise approximately $12,000. Coaches and players raised funds for shoe distribution in Sioux Falls. Schools that participated included the University of Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Christian, Lennox, Beresford, Harrisburg, Tea, Big Sioux Conference Girls Tournament, Brandon Valley, Chester, Baltic, Brookings, Watertown, and Dakota Valley Conference.

About Samaritan’s Feet
Samaritan’s Feet is a non-profit with worldwide headquarters based in Charlotte, North Carolina. The organization’s mission is to bring awareness to the fact that 300 million people around the globe go without shoes each day, and approximately one million people die each year due to preventable, foot-borne illnesses. This issue affects not only third-world countries but also advanced nations like the United States, where many children do not own shoes—or are wearing shoe sizes too small or are in disrepair. Samaritan’s Feet’s goal is to place 10 million pairs of shoes on 10 million of these needy people in the next 10 years. For more information, call (866) 833-7463 or visit samaritansfeet.org.
