SIOUX FALLS, S.D., June 12, 2014 ” DocuTAP, the country’s leading provider of integrated Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and practice management technology for urgent care practices, announces that Eric McDonald, the firm’s founder and CEO, has been awarded the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Yearâ„¢ 2014 Award in the category Environmental and Health Technology.
The award was presented to McDonald at a special gala event on Wednesday, June 11 at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis. McDonald was selected from 30 regional finalists by a panel of independent judges. The EY awards program recognizes entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.
“I am humbled to be awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award,” said McDonald. “All the candidates have accomplished tremendous results in both business and in their communities. This award reflects the amazing team around me; without them, my vision could never have been achieved.”
The Upper Midwest Region includes companies based in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas. Collectively, this year’s finalists generated more than $2.5 billion in revenue and accounted for more than 6,500 jobs by the end of 2013. McDonald was announced as a finalist for the awards on May 12.
DocuTAP was started by McDonald in his basement in 1999, was grown in the South Dakota Business Technology Center, and now employs over 200 staff. In June 2014, DocuTAP began moving to its new location in downtown Sioux Falls, S.D. DocuTAP now serves more than 750 urgent care clinics nationwide with software and billing services. As DocuTAP’s CEO, McDonald guides the firm’s sales and product development, setting the vision for software design and overall company direction.
Regional award winners are eligible for consideration for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year National program. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of The Year National Overall Award winner, will be announced at an annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 15.
