Sioux Falls, S.D. (October 2, 2013) ” DocuTAP, a Sioux Falls, South Dakota-based provider of an integrated EMR and practice management technology for urgent care providers, announces CEO and Founder Eric McDonald has received the Distinguished Professional Achievement Award from his alma mater Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.
McDonald was presented with the award during Northwestern College’s homecoming weekend on Saturday, September 28. He was one of four distinguished Northwestern College alumni recognized in 2013 for their notable accomplishments. McDonald graduated from Northwestern in 1998 with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science and Mathematics, and began developing DocuTAP software in his basement in 1999.
“The successes of DocuTAP combined with the company culture were key factors in Eric’s selection. His success as an entrepreneur as well as his desire to be a servant leader and openly share his faith at work elevated him among a list of strong candidates. Northwestern is proud of Eric and of his accomplishments,” said Mark Bloemendaal, Director of Alumni & Parent Relations at Northwestern College.
DocuTAP was started as a company in 2000, with McDonald as its sole employee until 2004. DocuTAP has grown to more than 150 employees and has attracted private capital investments of nearly $20 million dollars in the past two years. DocuTAP provides hundreds of urgent care clinics with web-based, tablet-run healthcare software and billing services.
In April 2013, McDonald was also the first ever recipient of the Entrepreneur of the Year Award presented by South Dakota Governor Dennis Daugaard and the South Dakota Governor’s Office of Economic Development.
